WHY JESUS?
Where do we go after we die?
What is on the other side of death? Does anyone have the answer? In the history of planet earth, only Jesus Christ has demonstrated power over death. All others have died, including great religious leaders such as Moses, Buddha, and Muhammad.
Jesus shocked his generation by claiming death had no power over him. He told his followers that he is “the resurrection and the life.” Jesus demonstrated his power over death by bringing Lazarus back to life four days after he had been buried.
But even more dramatic was Jesus’ own resurrection, one that he had predicted would occur three days after his death. No one really believed him, not even his closest followers. As Jesus hung dying on the cross, many of his disciples fled, thinking they would be next.
But three days later, they shouted to the world that Jesus had defeated death. It is impossible to explain their change of behavior and the sudden explosion of Christianity without the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (See “Did Jesus Really Rise from the Dead?”).
Jesus told us that because he conquered death, we too could have life with him eternally. He said that we were created to have a relationship with him, and that that relationship would continue forever. Furthermore, Jesus taught that our purpose here on earth is inseparably linked together with our destiny after we die.
Thus, because Jesus has power over death, he alone can answer the biggest questions we all have about life:
- “Who am I?”
- “Why am I here?”
- “Where do we go after we die?”
Many go through life wondering whether or not life has any real meaning. Even those who have achieved great fame and wealth sense that there is something more to life than money and popularity. And that includes even the most successful superstars.
